Taking Initiative
Our First One
We decided the best place to begin with our mission would be close to home, Our backyard playground, Kalavantin is one of our favourite hikes and a place often visited by many.
We knew there would be some trash on the trails since we have experienced it before, but only when we started cleaning the hike did we realise how much trash there actually is!

We definitely wanted to have the trails clean and slowly we filled up our trash bags and the trash would not stop flowing through!
It was an uphill battle , quite literally…..
Up Up and Beyond
There came a point where we picked up so many plastic bottles that all 4 bags were full of them, thankfully we met a local store which sold Nimbu Pani and some other refreshments and the owner told us we could deposit only the plastic bottles with him since he regularly sells it to the people who come to recycle plastic!
And amidst our chat we learnt that he had tried by himself to keep the trails clean by putting up posters and trying to educate people to not throw the trash on the trails and in the many designated bins provided throughout the trail, but this idea of his turned out fruitless.

This goes to say that cleaning up is one part of it ,but what if it was never dirtied in the first place…..
Alas Some Energy!
Towards the end of the hike, with tired legs and a fresh mind, we finished the descend strong, and after a couple refreshments at the bottom we had a look at the amount of trash we collected
It was about 8-10 kgs worth of trash , plastic bottles, wrappers, and even torn apart shoes!
